Furnace Repair Services in Berne, IN

As an industry rule of thumb, if your furnace is under 12 years old and the estimated repair expense is less than 50% of the cost of a replacement system, professional repair is generally the most economical choice. However, if your unit has a compromised heat exchanger or requires chronic seasonal fixes, our Berne, Indiana team will provide an unbiased, pressure-free evaluation of your options.

The draft inducer is a small motorized fan that turns on before the burners ignite. Its purpose is to pull combustion air through the heat exchanger and expel toxic exhaust gases safely out the flue vent. A pressure switch verifies that this draft is established; if the inducer motor fails or the vent is blocked, the furnace will lock out as a safety precaution.

Yes. Modern thermostats communicate low-voltage signals (24VAC) to the furnace control board. Dead internal batteries, damaged wiring, loose C-wire connections, or faulty internal relays will prevent your furnace from receiving the heating call. Our technicians in Berne, Indiana test control circuit voltages and can re-wire or recalibrate your thermostat during the service call.

During warm summer months, ambient dust settles onto the furnace burners and heat exchanger surfaces. During the first cold snap, this thin layer of dust burns off, producing a mild, transient burning odor that typically disappears within 30 to 45 minutes. If the smell persists, smells of burning plastic/wiring, or produces visible smoke, shut down the system and call (877) 719-1221 immediately.

This symptom is known as short-cycling. The most common culprit is a severely restricted airflow caused by a clogged furnace filter, which traps intense heat inside the cabinet and trips the high-temperature safety switch. Other potential causes include a malfunctioning draft inducer fan, an oversized unit, or a blocked chimney flue exhaust. Our Berne, Indiana technicians can calibrate and clear the system safely.
