Cold air discharge usually points to an extinguished pilot flame, an oxidized flame sensor rod that shuts down the gas valve after a few seconds, an overheated heat exchanger tripping the high-limit switch, or an ignition lock-out. Our certified technicians in West Frankfort, Illinois utilize digital multimeters and combustion testers to pinpoint the exact failure point and restore comfortable heat.

As an industry rule of thumb, if your furnace is under 12 years old and the estimated repair expense is less than 50% of the cost of a replacement system, professional repair is generally the most economical choice. However, if your unit has a compromised heat exchanger or requires chronic seasonal fixes, our West Frankfort, Illinois team will provide an unbiased, pressure-free evaluation of your options.

This symptom is known as short-cycling. The most common culprit is a severely restricted airflow caused by a clogged furnace filter, which traps intense heat inside the cabinet and trips the high-temperature safety switch. Other potential causes include a malfunctioning draft inducer fan, an oversized unit, or a blocked chimney flue exhaust. Our West Frankfort, Illinois technicians can calibrate and clear the system safely.

During warm summer months, ambient dust settles onto the furnace burners and heat exchanger surfaces. During the first cold snap, this thin layer of dust burns off, producing a mild, transient burning odor that typically disappears within 30 to 45 minutes. If the smell persists, smells of burning plastic/wiring, or produces visible smoke, shut down the system and call (877) 719-1221 immediately.

HVAC manufacturers and safety organizations recommend scheduling professional maintenance once per year, ideally in early autumn prior to continuous winter operation. Annual tune-ups clean combustion residues, verify gas pressure, inspect electrical connections, and verify safety controls, which prevents mid-winter breakdowns and lowers monthly utility bills in West Frankfort, Illinois.
