Furnace Repair Services in Southern View, IL

The draft inducer is a small motorized fan that turns on before the burners ignite. Its purpose is to pull combustion air through the heat exchanger and expel toxic exhaust gases safely out the flue vent. A pressure switch verifies that this draft is established; if the inducer motor fails or the vent is blocked, the furnace will lock out as a safety precaution.

Yes. Modern thermostats communicate low-voltage signals (24VAC) to the furnace control board. Dead internal batteries, damaged wiring, loose C-wire connections, or faulty internal relays will prevent your furnace from receiving the heating call. Our technicians in Southern View, Illinois test control circuit voltages and can re-wire or recalibrate your thermostat during the service call.

A fractured heat exchanger is a critical safety issue that can contaminate household air with carbon monoxide. Key warning signs include persistent soot streaks around the burner doors, a pungent chemical smell resembling formaldehyde, burner flames that flicker or burn yellow rather than steady blue, and unexplained headaches among household members. We use fiber-optic inspection cameras in Southern View, Illinois to check internal heat exchanger integrity.

As an industry rule of thumb, if your furnace is under 12 years old and the estimated repair expense is less than 50% of the cost of a replacement system, professional repair is generally the most economical choice. However, if your unit has a compromised heat exchanger or requires chronic seasonal fixes, our Southern View, Illinois team will provide an unbiased, pressure-free evaluation of your options.

During warm summer months, ambient dust settles onto the furnace burners and heat exchanger surfaces. During the first cold snap, this thin layer of dust burns off, producing a mild, transient burning odor that typically disappears within 30 to 45 minutes. If the smell persists, smells of burning plastic/wiring, or produces visible smoke, shut down the system and call (877) 719-1221 immediately.
